Midwestern Contractors Supports Camp One Step

All parents want their children to be challenged, but in safe ways. No parent wants to see their child challenged by disease. Especially a disease they may not survive. Jon Pfleeger, one of the owners of Midwestern Contractors, his wife and family faced such a disease. His daughter was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer. Thanks to prayers, medical expertise, and much demanding work his daughter survived. While there are many people and institutions to thank, Camp One Step stands out as an organization that helps children and families move beyond the disease and into a bright and hopeful future.

Camp One Step by Children's Oncology Services is a not-for profit organization that provides free year-round camp experiences for kids (ages birth-19) who have been diagnosed with cancer. They are the only local organization to offer 10 free in-person camps, as well as its CONNECTED digital programs, throughout the year servicing pediatric cancer patients, survivors, and their families. In over 40 years, Camp One Step has served more than 19,000 campers. The camps give kids who have been diagnosed with cancer a chance to partake in "normal" camp activities with their peers who know what it is like to battle a cancer diagnosis. https://CampOneStep.org/ . The Camp One Step experience can bring back a sense of purpose and belonging to a child’s life. The experience can help them dream and chart a path to fulfilling those dreams. It has had a profound effect on the children and their families.

Midwestern Contractors is a staunch supporter of Camp One Step and participates in fundraisers for the organization. Jon Pfleeger is a board member. Camp One Step has a special place in Jon's heart – since his middle daughter survived osteosarcoma. She participated in Camp One Step since 2018. While her cancer has been in remission for several years now, the emotional scars of dealing with this disease remain. Camp One Step helps by providing an opportunity to be around others just like her.

Camp One Step is only able to operate with the help and support of our communities. To donate to Camp One Step please visit https://CampOneStep.org/.
